If you enjoy gardening or growing things then having an herb gardening is something that may prove to be greatly beneficial to you. It is important to remember however that even things that you may enjoy doing often require a certain amount of work in order to be successful. Herb gardening is one area that this proves true.

Many people do not fully comprehend all that is involved with organizing and creating a successful herb garden. In fact this is the biggest reason that herb gardens fail to thrive. While herb gardening may seem like something that is easy to do the fact remains that sometimes it can also be a time consuming process.

This is because it takes time – sometimes a lot of it – to create a truly wondrous herb garden that is just as productive as it is beautiful.

There are several key factors that you need to consider before you ever even begin trying to plant an herb garden. These factors include what herbs you will grow, where you will plant them and learning how to properly care for them. This is not a difficult process however it does take time and dedication to achieve the end result you are trying to attain.

Before you begin to even think about planting an herb garden you need to first decide which herbs you are going to plant. This is important because not all herbs grow well in all environments. This is why it is important to first decide on the herbs you will grow so that you can determine if the climate and environment that you are considering will be compatible.

Another thing that is vitally important is the soil that you use for planting herbs. While herbs do require adequate water it is important that the soil have proper drainage so as not to retain too much moisture. Excess moisture could lead to improper growth and even waterlogged roots which will prevent the herbs from growing properly.

Adequate light is another issue that must be considered when planting herbs as well. Some herbs require lots of sunlight each day while others prefer little or none. It is important that you know the exact sunlight requirements of whatever herbs that you intend to plant.

Location of your herb garden is vitally important as well. If you have herbs that require shade you do not want to plant them in areas that receive excessive sunlight. Likewise, just the opposite is true if you are planting herbs that require an abundance of sunlight.

As you can see there are many things that must be considered before beginning to plant an herb garden. If you take the time to consider each of these things your success rate will be much higher. The best place to get all the information you need regarding herb gardening is your local nursery.
