Lawn Landscaping Maintenance Tips

By gardener | May 31, 2010

Landscaping maintenance also goes by the name groundskeeping and it is the art of keeping the landscape attractive, clean, healthy, and safe. It is important to do landscaping maintenance because it keeps away animals from the lawn, it avoids conflicts with the neighbors and with the local authorities, it makes the lawn beautiful and it gives you something to do.

Landscaping Maintenance should be done on a regular schedule. It is important to do landscaping maintenance to your lawn because it will keep you on the right side of the local laws, you will avoid conflicts with your neighbors, you will have a place to pass your time and to bond with family members, your lawn will be beautiful, and you will keep away animals and insects. The internet is the best place to do this research since it is a cheap and a convenient source of information. To get a good groundskeeper, get a recommendation from a neighbor or a friend who has a well-maintained landscape. You can also get your friends or family members to help in the groundskeeping.

You should do research before doing lawn landscaping maintenance. You should remove the weeds manually because herbicides can cause harm to your pets, family members, and the environment. You should also avoid the use of pesticides as much as you can to for the same reasons. Towards the end of autumn each year, apply fertilizer to the plants. The plants need these nutrients during the winter months if they are to be strong and to enable them to ‘explode’ on the onset of spring. Note that giving your plants too much water is just as bad as giving them too little.

If you do not have the time, the skills, or the will, you should consider hiring a groundskeeper. Groundskeepers are professionals who have theoretical knowledge on groundskeeping and who have experience. This experience and theoretical knowledge is important because they know the best plants for you, they know where to get the plants, they know the best fertilizers to use, they know the best time to do landscaping maintenance, and they can offer you advice on how to make your lawn better.

You should also aerate the lawn on the onset of winter. Different times of the year require different landscaping maintenance. To avoid wastage of water, avoid the temptation of just leaving the hose on lawn. Use drip irrigation or aboveground sprinklers. You should also weed your lawn as frequently as you find weed – avoid chemical based herbicides if you can because they are harmful to people, animals and the environment.
