Five Basic Types of Roses You Could Choose for Your Garden
You’ve made the right choice by choosing to put roses in your garden. After all what would a garden be without them? The various shapes, sizes and colors bring out the best in any garden. But now comes the difficult part- the part where you have to choose which roses to plant. With so many roses out there to choose from and each so exquisite, it’s tough to decide. Well we’ve taken the difficulty out of it and found five basic roses for you to plant in your garden.
Hybrid Tea Roses are very popular in the garden. They are known for their long, sturdy stem and the vast array of colors available. They’re great because they tend to be more resistant to disease than in years past. The blooms typically have 25 to 60 petals and seem to bloom the most frequently throughout the year. You can find potted and bare root hybrid tea plants at most nurseries and hardware stores. The important thing to remember when choosing your plant is to buy those that will fare better in the climate where you live. As long as you pay attention to their climate needs and give them the care that they need, you will be on your way to growing a beautiful Hybrid Tea Rose Bush.
Floribundas are another popular rose that would be a wonderful choice for your garden. Floribundas have a unique personality, abundant flowers, and long-lasting blooms. The intense fragrance is what sets these roses apart from others. Within the Floribundas there is variance among the look of the flowers. You will see those that have intricate spiraled centers and those that are more decorative. Some of them produce large sprays and some produce smaller sprays but most have long stems.
Grandiflora roses would be a great addition to any garden. These beautiful flowers are a cross between hybrid tea roses and floribundas. Growing 3-5 feet tall and having around 7 ruffled blooms on each long stem, they bloom more frequently than hybrid tea roses. Grandifloras are known for being a tough bush (they withstand a lot). They are great as background plants and also look beautiful as cut flowers.
Miniature roses are a favorite of many gardeners. They’re a rose but—mini. To fall under the classification of being miniature, the blooms must be 1.5 inches across or smaller. The colors and fragrances widely vary among them. The buds are well-formed and pretty resistant to diseases. The plants usually grow anywhere from 6-18 inches tall and can be grown inside or outside. Miniature roses are hardy little plants when it comes to the weather. You can put these guys on a walkway, in your garden, or even in a small pot outside your window.
Climbing roses are a favorite because of their beauty. They seem to magically climb up any surface and spread out their beautiful arms. When you come upon a garden graced with climbing roses you can truly appreciate what they do for you visually. When selecting a climbing rose one thing that’s extremely important is to consider how much sunlight they can tolerate. You want to put them somewhere where they’ll be able to grow to their full potential. Color is also important. Because they will be a main factor in the garden you want something that blends with the other colors you have. Remember to have patience when you’re growing your climbing roses. Many of them can take a few years to fully bloom.
With so many roses to choose from make sure that the ones you get will be able to survive in the climate where you live. If you give them the proper care, they’ll grace your garden with beautiful flowers for years and years.
